Our Romantic Dinner

My awesome boyfriend decided one Friday evening to greet me with a lovely romantic dinner for two. (It must've been all my nagging about me wanting having a steaming-piping-dinner-ready-on-the-table-when-i-come-home-from-work that finally paid off....

Antipasto (L-R clockwise): saltines, brie, sharp mozzarella cheese balls, lox on cucumbers, sun dried tomatoes

Entre: Porterhouse as the centerpiece with broccoli on the side and lemon as garnish. Also served with a side of mac n cheese (R) and A1 dipping sauce (L).

Dessert: a piece of melondew, a piece sugar cookies, a piece of a sprinkles cupcakes, and homemade confection of cream cheese and strawberry jam and a bit of whipped cream. This was surprisingly pretty tasty.

Hot Pot Day 2

For Day 2, we've got a LOT of sliced brisket, more rice vermicelli, proper veggies with cabbage, more imitation crab meat, a bit of celery and more delicious fishballs. The skillet on the right is so we could "grill" some of the brisket.

This is my first time trying artichoke hummus. It tasted weird at first but after a couple of these, it started tasting pretty good. I think artichoke is an acquired taste. I've tried regular hummus before and it was tasty on the first bite. If you add a bit of vienna sausages to these, it's even better!

DIY Candle Making

Okay, it seems like my boyfriend is getting more and more creative as he made this. How, you ask. He used the fat that came with the beef ribs after baking it for a super duper long time. When it harden overnight, he scooped out the fatty portions, rendered it, then filtered the stuff so it's all tallow...
You can make a candle with tallow...

You can tell the meat is fall off the bones tender when there's hardly anything left... -_- So sad....
I guess we won't be getting beef ribs again....

Beef Ribs

Not much to say here other than you should really keep it in the oven for a super duper long time so that it is tender meat fall off the bones. Sadly, this was not baked for a super duper long time. Tomorrow it should be better. I'll say it was tasty though, just real difficult to get to the meat.

Jennie-o Italian Turkey Sausages

The secret to juicy plump sausages is to boil'em in beer (we used hite for this batch) until the beer evaporates and then cook'em in the pan til they're nicely browned.

Onion Rings

Well, obviously, you need onion rings to make the well known appetizer...

And you need batter to dip the onion rings into to make it deliciously tasty
(Batter is made with flour, salt, pepper, and beer)

 Then you fry them!

There you have it. Yummy fried goodness in my tummy! All smiles here :)

Update: For the exact measurements, go to this future post.

Fried Pork Lumps

These are ground pork marinated with soy sauce, brown sugar and cornstarch. We then added an egg to it and grabbed a lump and covered it with flour/cornstarch/breadcrumb mixture.

Then we fried it in a pot of oil.

 Mm-mmmmmm

Deliciousness in my tummy. The dipping sauce is just mayo and relish. Pretty YUM!

Ground Pork n Tofu

This is an old dish my mom taught me. It's ground pork marinated with soy sauce, brown sugar, and cornstarch. If you like sweet, add more sugar. If you like salty, use a bit more soy sauce. Mix. If it is a dry mix, add a bit of water. Then pan fry. Add chopped tofu and canned corn.

Ta-da! Eat with brown rice and corn.

Waffles!

We use a pretty basic recipe for waffles: 2 cups flour, 2tbs sugar, 1tbs baking powder, 1/2tsp salt, 1 3/4 cups of milk, 6 tbs veggie oil and 1 large egg. (I doubled the batter in the picture above... one of the eggs had a double yoke!)

By the way, for any extras, just place them in an airtight container and put them away in the freezer until you're ready for some munchies!

YUM! My family LOVES waffles! We grab 'em to eat for breakfast, lunch and even dinner! Waffles are so versatile because you can add anything to the batter and it'll still be pretty delicious! Add raisins, dried cranberries, chocolate chips, chopped hard candies like butterfingers, jam (but it can get messy), marshmallows (melt it first), chopped fruits, cream cheese and so much more.

Our version of musubi includes a bit of eggs. Omn nom nom. We don't eat these things too often but man, I love these!!! It's just rice, spam and eggs. And you can totally add other things including but not limited too imitation crabs, cucumbers, a bit of carrots, smelt eggs, etc.

Instant Yakisoba

My hubster made me lunch today! Instant yakisoba. It's pretty good (for instant) and goes well with vienna sausages. I wouldn't want to eat this everyday though... (it's kinda not quite like a dry version of cup of noodles)
