Egg Drop Soup

Egg drop soup (traditional: ; pinyin: dàn huā tāng; literally "egg flower soup") is a Chinese soup of wispy beaten eggs in boiled chicken brothCondiments such as black pepper or white pepper, and finely chopped scallions and tofu are also commonly added. The soup is finished by adding a thin stream of beaten eggs to the boiling broth in the final moments of cooking, creating thin, silken strands or flakes of cooked egg that float in the soup.

This version uses chicken broth, tofu, sliced ribeye beef with a LOT of eggs. Usually, we also add chopped green onions but we didn't have any... still yummy!

Leftovers

Everything you see are leftovers, except for the rice. That was a new batch.
We mixed the ground beef n eggs with the short plate and cucumbers. Not shown were the added dashes of Chipotle's Smoked sauce. And some pickled daikon and carrots. This meal was very savory and tasty. Love it! (I think the pickled daikon and carrots make everything taste better though).

Beef n Cucumbers

Here we have short plate mixed with julienned cucumbers, picked daikon and carrots and brown rice topped with furikake. The beef and cucumbers were an interesting mix at first, but it turned out  well (but still not one of my fav).

A lil bit of Everything

This is pretty much the same as last night's dinner with the kimchi pork bellies, lettuce and beef n eggs. Tonight we made rice though and added some kimchi. This kimchi was way more spicier than the first bottle we bought. If only we could read korean....

Beef n Eggs with Porkbelly and Lettuce

We made beef n eggs with ground beef and scrambled eggs. This time we ate kimchi marinated porkbelly (already bought pre-marinated) with lettuce. The beef and eggs were kinda bland despite a good dose of salt and pepper. It needed a kick to it so we added smoked chipotle hot sauce to it and it was much tastier. Omnomnomnomnom

Thanksgiving Dinner

We were in SJ for Thanksgiving this year and there was SO MUCH fooooooood!!! I swear, there was cooking for a hundred plus people and it seemed like there were only twenty to thirty people total... Needless to say, there was so much food to be thankful for! :D Here are lots of pictures that didn't include desserts...
Curry rice samosas with coconut sauce
Spaghetti noodles a la squash
Roasted Veggies
Cold ham slices with maraschino cherries and canned pineapples
One of the TWO turkeys that were there, both were greater than 10 lbs -_-
Corn Salsa
Cheesy mac
Mashed potatoes topped with a layer of melted cheddar cheese

Brussel sprouts, bell peppers, carrots and string beans
More mashed potatoes w/ gravy
Roast beef done perfectly!
Garlic Mushroom Bread
Still not quite everything... But I sure was thankful for all the foodies that were there for me to eat and not lift a finger.... Thank you Charles' cousins!! :D

Shortplate Scrambled Eggs n Broccoli

For tonight's dinner, we enjoyed shortplate with onions seasoned only with salt and pepper over a bed of lettuce, scrambled eggs with chopped green onions and lightly salted, and sauteed broccoli w/onions, again, lightly salted to taste. Everything was just delectable!

Baked Chicken w/ Pie n Ice Cream

More baked chicken... lately the chicken's brine has been herby in place of sugar plus the sea salt, ain't no brine without the salt! Tonight we had the baked chicken with a bit of green olives and broccoli and brown rice, which is topped with salmon furikake. Super delish (as usual) :D

Plus, I made a smaller batch of persimmon pie but w/o the sugar:
As you can see, I guess I understand why pies are baked in a round shape now...
this picture above is after the poufiness settled down...
I guess this is just a preview of what Thanksgiving desserts would entail...

Persimmon Pie

We had so many persimmons from our tree, I decided to make a persimmon pie instead of a pumpkin pie this year. Here's how I made the crust.
I baked it in our toaster....
Turned out wonderfully :)
I ended up using about 4 persimmons... I peeled'em, quartered'em, and microwaved'em in a bowl with water until it was super hot and squishy... about 5 minutes, then add to food processor
Add to food processor too. That's 1 tsp pumpkin spice, 1/4 tsp kosher salt, 2 eggs, 1 cup of heavy whipping cream w/ 1/2 cup of 2% milk and 1/4 cup brown sugar.
Puree!
Pour into cooked crust! Then bake at 350 degrees F for 40-50 minutes or until you can place a toothpick in the center and it pulls out clean.
This picture was taken right after I pulled it out the oven. Once it cools, it'll settle down and look exactly like a store bought pie, no joke!

This pie was a bit sweet since unlike pumpkin, it doesn't need that much sugar. Persimmons are already sweet. Next time, I'll add even less sugar.

the Stinking Rose

For my second bday weekend, hubby and I went to the Stinking Rose... (I am so spoiled by food lately!... YUM)
their breads are to die for! Super delicious with a soft interior and a slightly crunchy exterior. Their breads are freakin perfect!

Mussels and Shrimp Combo - again, AMAZING!!! and filling too! We actually ordered it to act as an appetizer, but omgosh, there were so many mussels topped with about 6-7 shrimps for the medium plate. MMMMMM!

Hubby ordered the Boneless Short Rib - it was pretty good too, I can't say/remember anything bad about it... the mashed potatoes were also plenty tasty and yumsters!

I ordered their Fish n Chips and the fish is also AMAZING! It's got this great crunch on the outside w/o feeling ridiculously oily/greasy and super soft and moist on the inside. My hubby also would like to point out that it's a whole fillet... it's just curled up into the fries.

The foods at the Stinking Rose is just AWESOME and super delicious and I can't stop raving about how great the Stinking Rose is.

Please note: I don't usually post restaurant foods up on my blog, but since it was my birthday weekends... I figured I'd make an exception :)

Salami Bruschetta

Instead of an actual lunch, sometimes I'd rather just munch. So, I made myself a salami bruschetta. My version is just toasted bread slathered with mayo and black pepper, salami pieces, and mild tomato salsa. I'd've topped it with shredded mozzarella cheese if there was any in the fridge. It was still yummy in my tummy w/o it though. :)
Mmmmmmmmmmmmm!!

Korean Fried Chicken and French Toast
