NY Strip Steak

It's been awhile since the hubby and I had a chunk of meat medium rare. We had food poisoning and it wasn't fun. We saw a pretty decent looking meat (a bit too lean, not enough marbling) for a pretty good price and decided to eat some steaks tonight all while in the back of our minds, we're praying not to get food poisoning again.
We patted our steaks dry with a paper towel. Then seasoned the steaks with salt and pepper.
In a cast iron pan, on high heat, we melted about 2 tbs of butter. Then we placed one steak at a time to cook for a couple of minutes on each side.
When the steak is flipped, we added just a touch more butter. Once the steak is done to your liking, simply place the steak on a wooden board, cover with foil, and let it rest for 10 minutes before cutting into it.
Serve with salad on the side :D Twas delicious!

Steak n Salad

For tonight's dinner, we had a good old fashion American dinner. I'm guessing that usually means steak, right? Anyhoo, we had steak and salad. My hubby usually makes the steak via Alton Brown style (mostly cooked in the oven), but tonight he tried it Gordon Ramsay style (cooked entirely on the stove top).

First, you need to bring your steaks out to room temperature. Let it sit out for about an hour or so before you cook it.

When your steak is at room temp and you're ready to cook it, heat up a cast iron skillet on high. Then, sprinkle your steaks with salt (we used sea salt) and freshly ground pepper.

Once your cast iron skillet is hot, add oil. Then place your steak in the skillet. Sear each side for 3-4 minutes for medium rare, then flip the steak. About 1 1/2 minutes on the second side, melt butter into the pan.

Finally, serve on a bed of lettuce (or on the side) and let it rest for 10 minutes.

and mine (I did a halfsie with my pops & my hubster kindly (and without asking) sliced up our steak. It was mm-mmm delicious)

Super fast and super simple. Even I could make it! :)

NY Steak with Salad. Easy NY Steak recipe can be found here. Salad is just green leaf lettuce and chopped tomatoes with sliced cucumbers on the side. What a pretty yummy dinner! :D

NY Steaks

My bf always cooks the steaks because he knows how to get them done just right. Before placing them in the heated cast iron, bf seasons it with lawry's salt. He lets them brown in the cast iron to get those beautiful grill marks, then places the iron skillet in the oven to be baked to perfection, medium rare. (Mine is medium since I can't handle medium rare... that's just too rare for me).

This was our lunch. All meat. :) The sauce is part ketchup, part AI sauce. Goes great with fries too! Imagine Homer drooling, because that's what's happening right now for all meat lovers. mmmmmmmmmmmmm
